            Newly constructed terminal at Trichy Airport was inaugurated by, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gracing the occasion. The state-of-the-art terminal is expected to elevate the overall travel experience.   After holding a convocation event at the Bharathidasan University, PM Modi was felicitated by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.

Prime Minister Modi’s Comments:

Tamil Nadu is a reflection of the richness and culture of India. “Tamil Nadu is the home of the ancient language Tamil and it is a treasure of cultural heritage”, Thiruvalluvar and Subramania Bharati are great writers of literature. He mentioned that Tamil Nadu is home to scientific and technological brains like CV Raman and other scientists who infuse him with fresh energy whenever he visits the state.

 Referring to the rich heritage of Tiruchirappalli, Prime Minister Modi said remnants of good governance models of the Pallavar, Chola, Pandyas, and Nayak dynasties can be found here. He said that he mentions Tamil culture at every opportunity during his foreign trips. I believe in the continuous expansion of the contribution of Tamil cultural inspiration to the development and heritage of the country, he said. He noted that the installation of the sacred scepter in the new Parliament, Kashi Tamil and Kashi Saurashtra Sangam were initiatives that led to increased interest in Tamil culture across the country.

Trichy Airport & New Terminal:

               The new terminal building has been developed at a cost of more than ₹ 1100 crore. The two-level new international terminal can serve more than 44 lakh passengers annually and about 3,500 during peak hours, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) informed earlier through an official release.

         Tiruchirappalli International Airport is the second-largest airport in terms of international passenger traffic after Chennai in Tamil Nadu. The terminal is built with two floors covering an area of 60,723 sq m and can handle 4000 international schools at a time.

New Terminal Facilities:

  •    The new terminal building contains 48 check-in and 40 check-out counters, 5 baggage carousels, 60 arrival immigration counters, and 44 departure emigration counters which can handle up to 1500 domestic passengers.
  • 10 aprons, aero bridge, electric hoists at 26 places, and escalators have been installed to stop aircraft.
  •   X-ray testing centers have been set up at 15 locations in 3 testing centers for Customs.
  • VIP waiting rooms at 3 locations Airport facilities Parking for 1000 cars.
  • The new terminal features murals focusing on Tamil Nadu’s culture, traditions and festivals
  • The roof of the airport is designed to generate electricity through solar energy.
  • An air control room with a 42.5-meter-high observation tower is being constructed for Rs 75 croresT
