Trichy corporation’s proposal to convert Wireless road near Trichy international airport into a 100-feet road after removing encroachments on the stretch has been grounded due to lack of funds.
The corporation said that the cost of widening the road, which was estimated at 4.8 crore in 2022, was revised to 11 crore recently.
The revised estimate includes widening the 65-foot-wide (present width) carriageway into 100 feet with a median and providing stormwater drains with pedestrian platforms on the entire stretch.
The proposal was earlier planned to be executed under Namakku Naame scheme through corporate social responsibility (CSR) support from Airports Authority of India (AAI).
Since there was a delay in securing the CSR fund, Trichy corporation said it is looking for alternatives to secure the fund.
