NEWS : Trichy corporation’s proposal to convert Wireless road near Trichy international airport into a 100-feet road after removing encroachments on the stretch has been grounded due to lack of funds. The corporation said that the cost of widening the road, which was estimated at 4.8 crore in 2022, was revised to 11 crore recently. The revised estimate includes widening the 65-foot-wide (present width) carriageway into 100 feet with a median and providing stormwater drains with pedestrian platforms on the entire stretch.The proposal was earlier planned to be executed under Namakku Naame scheme through corporate social responsibility (CSR) support from Airports Authority of India (AAI). News : At the Trichy international airport on Wednesday Nagapattinam police arrested a man as he was about to board a Kuala Lumpur-bound flight, on charges of cheating some people to the tune of Rs 2.73 crore. Police identified the accused as Pillappan, a native of Sivaganga district. Four people including businessmen had lodged a complaint against him with the Nagapattinam district crime branch police. They said Pillappan approached them saying he owned properties worth Rs 500 crore in Malaysia. He also showed some documents in support of these properties, which were in fact fake. The customs department seized 47 live juvenile snakes and two lizards from a passenger who arrived at the Trichy international airport from Kuala Lumpur via Malindo Air Flight on Sunday. Based on information, officials intercepted Mohamed Mohideen from Chennai, checked his bags and found the reptiles. They seized the reptiles under the Wildlife Protection Act and alerted forest department officials.Mohideen was arrested and later remanded in judicial custody. Steps are being taken to deport the seized reptiles back to the country of origin. Further investigations are on.
